A Day in My Studio… May 16 2010, 0 Comments

Last Saturday the weather was wild and crazy, blowing winds, rain on and off.  For me, a perfect day to go to my studio and sew.

A day in my studio is inspiring and comforting it never feels like work.  My mission was to sew a storage bucket.  My bucket is made from linen and lined with sail cloth, and old sail, we had a sail boat once.

Here are results of those endeavours… I will use it for many things, storing magazines, odds and ends and used it display my freshly picked lilacs. The softy gray/brown of the linen paired with the lilacs is a nice contrast.

I will be making more buckets and they will be in the store soon!

Hint: How to keep you lilacs lasting longer:

Cut branches like you are pruning tree or bush, bring the branches inside, split  the stem at the bottom with sharp scissors about 1inch ( if the stem is woody, gently smash the ends with a hammer this will help the branches absorb water.

Remove any bud or leaves that will be under water to prevent rot. Place in your favorite container in warm water, place in a cool location away from direct sunlight.  And enjoy!

Lilac is the new Beige!

Try these colours…

- Misty Lilac (Benjamin Moore) 2071-70: This is a very pretty colour with blue-and-white fabric.
- Grape Hyacinth (Pratt & Lambert) 31-24: A grayed purple, a nice compliment with a warm beige and camel.
