Lovely Lavender! July 10 2010, 0 Comments
Lavender is an herb that everyone seems to know. It not only has a wonderful fragrance, but it tastes absolutely fantastic, lavender and strawberries, lavender lemonade (see recipe inside), lavender and white wine.
I have lavender in my garden the smell is amazing, when you walk by the plants.
Lavender is derived from the Latin “lava re” which means “to wash” and that is what the Romans did with lavender.
Recent studies indicate that lavender will relive stress and headaches. I can relate to that I take a lavender bath nightly. A few drops of essential oil in the water not only make a nice fragrance but you feel refreshed and relaxed.
This week so far has been incredibly humid and hot here. So I left some of this wonderful Lemonade for the crew that arrived to work at my house this morning. There were a few funny faces, but it was all gone when I came home.
- 5 cups water
- 12 stems of fresh lavender
- 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 2-1/4 cups lemon juice
Boil 2-1/2 cups of water with the sugar. Add the lavender stems and remove from heat.
Put a lid on and let it cool. When cool, add 2-1/2 cups of water and the lemon juice.
Strain out the lavender. Serve the lavender with crushed ice and garnish with a lavender Blossoms.
I did manage to get a couple of hours by the water on the long weekend. This is the view from our dock.
The scaffolding has been set up and this will be my new furniture for a little while.
Stay tuned for the Reno updates!
