Working with Neutrals November 21 2013, 0 Comments

Neutrals are the starting point for almost any palette. The key to making a neutrals palette work is to add texture. That could be through the use of metals or combinations of smooth and rough textiles or Rustic woods. Don’t let working with a neutral palette scare you. These colours and tones evoke tranquility with a soft sophisticated look. by the way neutrals are not just white or beige.. When I do an interior project I think of the long term.. the easy things to change are paintings/cushions and accessories.. I stick with a neutral palette for walls and floors.. as much as possible , simply because these are large surface areas and can be costly to change.

Here are few neutrals for the wall…

Cooking Apple Green from Farrow & Ball  # 32 .. this is a green with gray but it is still very bright.. another is November Rain#2142-60 from Benjamin Moore.. looks good with wood trim and is a putty colour warm, but not to warm..

For Furniture painting.. try these colour from Annie Sloan

Paris Grey this colour is inspired by French and Swedish interiors and works well with blues and oranges… Paloma  a soft purplish Grey I call a transitional colour … totally of out my comfort range but I have grown to love it.. works well with purples and grays …

Here is a love piece a painted by Virginia Weathersby an Annie Sloan paint stockist..

Mirror Inspiration April 14 2012, 0 Comments

I seem to have an obession with mirrors, all types and all sizes. I like them because decorating with mirros is a great way to bring style to any room.

Here are few of my reasons

1. in addition to providing and alterantive to wallart, mirrors offer the addtitional benefit of addint light to any room.

2. think big ! the bigger the mirror the more light in can reflect, not only will there be light refection but i can also make a room look much larger.

3. mirrors can also provide a focal point , and will help to anchor  all of the other decorative elements  of the room.

Mossy Green ( Nancy's Green) February 28 2012, 0 Comments

I love this Mossy Green look it was my inspiration to play with the Annie Sloan Paint Colours
I Mixed 2 parts Old White, 2 Parts Chateau Grey and 1 Part Olive.

I then waxed the piece with a combination of clear and dark wax together

I used 1/2 dark wax and 1/2 clear wax. Remember if you are making a mixture of wax to label it and to store in an non-flammable metal container.

I really should call this colour Nancy's Green I have friend who loves it more than I do , she not only has it in her home but wears it too..

Painting Furniture January 05 2012, 0 Comments

One of the many beauties of Annie Sloan paint is that you can paint all year round. Since there is no priming , stripping , or sanding and it is low voc ( volatile organic compound i.e nasty toxic smell ) you can paint all year round. You don't even need a special room.

Painted furniture will spice up your room and decorate your space with minimum disruption or expense.

Your pieces can be

Did you know that painting furniture will  disguise imperfections in furniture that has seen better days and it will also make for an uplifting colour statement.

M only painted a couple of other  pieces before she tackled the kitchen  and she did a wonderful Job . Can't wait to see what is next.

I have an eclectic style , I love modern and I love old. I also love giving old tired pieces a new perspective.
I frequent flea markets , antique shops, garage sales and curbside cast offs, and even dumpster. I know that speaking to some of you , over the phone we all have a common interest. I think it is wonderful, my take on it is, look at all the things that we are giving life to all the things that would have gone to landfill.

Annie Sloan chalk paint is helping us change the world with one paint can at a time. I think colour is one of the most creative ways to express yourself.

I recently went to an auction and picked up this interesting mirror, not in the best of shape, but with a little  modeling clay I was able to duplicate the missing pieces  and a fresh coat of  Chalk Paint Viola a new mirror. I was hoping to have it done for this post, but did not get it quite finished.

In the meantime enjoy these colour inspirations.
