The Pineapple

The Pineapple  has been the symbol of hospitality since the days of the early American colonies. The legend began with the sea captain of New England, who sailed among the Caribbean Islands and returned to the colonies bearing cargo of fruits spices, and rum.

According to the legend , the captain would spear a pineapple on a fence post outside his home to let his friends know of his safe return from the sea. The Pineapple was an invitation for them to visit, share his food and drink and listen to tales of his voyage.

So in honour of your visits to the Melon Patch Weekend Oct 14th and 15 th. I promise no tales of my voyage .

Another giveaway will be a hand painted Welcome sing on slate.

I have been fan of pineapple symbols for many years, I was given a small brass one by a friend and it mounted just by my front door at my farmhouse.

I also have pineapple planters one which hangs out side the Melon Patch Store and use it all year long , in the summer it is planted with seasonal flowers  , in the fall with a fall  arrangement and then as the winter approaches with winter greens to celebrate the holidays . These are available for purchase.

Road Trip September 25 2011, 0 Comments

Saturday was a last minute decision to take a road trip .

I had made contact with a supplier that I have been trying to reach all summer, a hard man to reach he often goes to Europe on buying trips and sell at the  Brimfield Market.

The day beautiful, his barn amazing, and if I had only won the lottery I would have come home with it all,  but no lottery and a small car made the decision for me.

My mission to buy dough bowls, I love them and  have fond memories form  my younger days. I grew up in Croatia and my mother would bake bread weekly, and she would let the dough rise in a similar type bowl.

A few pictures for inspiration: I love them they have charm and history and  are multi purpose.

If you are interested in a dough bowl you will find them at the Melon Patch , or I can send you an individual photo of the bowls I purchased with size and price.

Legacy Hardware

On the way back we stopped at the wonderful Legacy Hardware , and if  you are a fan of Sara's House ( Sara Richardson ) there is a clip of her outside buying a tub and inside  buying Lighting.

I had met Christine and her daughter earlier in the week, they came to the Melon Patch to buy chalk paint, and by Saturday they had painted two pieces and have them in the shop for sale. Great job!!! a great fit for their store.

Funny how the world is small , I have been a customer of theirs for years and now we have even more in common, their great stuff and my chalk paint, a winning team I'd say, and nice people to boot.

Be sure to make a trip it well worth it and truly inspiring.

This is an amazing place, you could spend the whole day they have everything you would ever  want for vintage restoration.

Here are a few images from their website. www.legacy.com

Today and This Week etc. July 21 2011, 0 Comments

The weather is insanely hot and I am moving the store form one location to another.

The paint finally arrived as I mentioned , dealing with the shipping issues and Canada customs made me almost crazy.  But each and everyone of you had been wonderful about the delay, so by Saturday I should have all the orders packed weighed and ready for shipping and you will be getting a call to get your payment information.

No to mention the debit machine was not working, I had problems with the new hook up I left Bell (thank god , if anyone has dealt with them you know what I mean) to a new provider and the terminal I have was not compatible with the new phone line.  But the service I got was amazing and the Cutie that came to fix the problem today was great. So we are up and running , with that part anyway.

The new store will be organized in the next week , and if you are in the area please drop by, always glad to see a new face and bring some work gear , I am sure we can find something for you to do.

Oh did I tell you I also had to put my dog down he was 14 and an amazing friend. :(

What a week!!!!!

Oh and I have  a couple of kitchen designs to present!!

Remember the new location 357 Main Street in Bath, Ontario, just 20 minutes west of Kingston and 20 minutes east of Beautiful Prince Edward County and Bath is on the water too, we have a  couple of great parks, wonderful ice cream shop. Lesly and Jason and their two beautiful children THE MAIN STREET CREAMERY.

All this has made me tired and off to bed early to night.

Until next time stay cool , enjoy and remember before and after pictues of your Annie Sloan projects , they are an inspiraton to all.

Decorate the Table Event! September 22 2010, 0 Comments

I had the privilege of participating in the first Decorate the Table Event, a fundraiser for Hospice Kingston.

There were 15 tables, every one was to be different. We were to set each table for 10 people, I used my everyday china (Evesham) to do a fall table, it was a challenge to put all the elements together.

The silver and glassware were provided. I used a table runner which I purchased in Croatia at the flea market, it is pure hemp (vintage), my eclectic set of candlesticks, the flowers were mostly hand picked, oak leaves from my walks sedum from the garden, and golden rod from the back field.
