Sunday Brunch January 31 2012, 0 Comments

A few weeks ago Christyne and Steve invited to a marvelous brunch . The french toast rich and delicious the bread came from Italy and  was smothered with tasty toppings , the wine equally wonderful. All low calories of course!

Christyne and Steve are both in the restaurant business, Christyne a trained pastry chef ( the most amazing butter tarts)and Steve a Sommelier( is a trained wine expert who specializes in all wine services as well as wine and food matching). Steve will be conducting personal tours and tasting in wonderful Prince Edward County , starting this summer stay tuned and we will let you know when the tours start.

Here are the results the inside was already red, the exterior French Linen with Dark Wax, very classy. Job well done.

Thanks guys a nice way to spend a Sunday Afternoon.

Here are the comments that came with the photo's

" I did it! Painted the cabinets with old white installed new knobs. I am so loving my farmhouse looking kitchen. I could not complete the project without Annie Slaon's paint for sure!"

M only painted a couple of other  pieces before she tackled the kitchen  and she did a wonderful Job . Can't wait to see what is next.

Road Trip September 25 2011, 0 Comments

Saturday was a last minute decision to take a road trip .

I had made contact with a supplier that I have been trying to reach all summer, a hard man to reach he often goes to Europe on buying trips and sell at the  Brimfield Market.

The day beautiful, his barn amazing, and if I had only won the lottery I would have come home with it all,  but no lottery and a small car made the decision for me.

My mission to buy dough bowls, I love them and  have fond memories form  my younger days. I grew up in Croatia and my mother would bake bread weekly, and she would let the dough rise in a similar type bowl.

A few pictures for inspiration: I love them they have charm and history and  are multi purpose.

If you are interested in a dough bowl you will find them at the Melon Patch , or I can send you an individual photo of the bowls I purchased with size and price.

Legacy Hardware

On the way back we stopped at the wonderful Legacy Hardware , and if  you are a fan of Sara's House ( Sara Richardson ) there is a clip of her outside buying a tub and inside  buying Lighting.

I had met Christine and her daughter earlier in the week, they came to the Melon Patch to buy chalk paint, and by Saturday they had painted two pieces and have them in the shop for sale. Great job!!! a great fit for their store.

Funny how the world is small , I have been a customer of theirs for years and now we have even more in common, their great stuff and my chalk paint, a winning team I'd say, and nice people to boot.

Be sure to make a trip it well worth it and truly inspiring.

This is an amazing place, you could spend the whole day they have everything you would ever  want for vintage restoration.

Here are a few images from their website. www.legacy.com

THE TRIP August 18 2011, 0 Comments

The day was off to an early start 4:00 a.m. to be exact.
Paula arrived at 5:30 and we were off the ferry to pick up Barb.
We arrived at Barb's at 6:30 and then another 2 hour drive to the Go train , west of Toronto.
Train ride in about 40 minutes to Union Station, a short walk to catch the shuttle to take another ferry to catch the plane.
The plane ride about an hour and a half to Newark N.J. to catch another train to reach Little Silver

The traveling sounds exhausting , but actually it was  lot of fun, we laughed a lot got silly , met some interesting people along the way. We all had separate seats, I had  a very interesting companion, who was a Canadian working in the U.S. wonderful conversation, Paula said she could here me talking and asked if he had a chance to say anything? Is she trying to tell me something?

When we arrived in Little Silver it was raining cats and dogs as they say, a short cab ride to the hotel and we were there. I think we took every mode of transport to arrive at our destination.

On Monday morning we were picked up by Karen and taken to our workshop , which was conducted by Patty Seaman and her sister Karen form bestfurniturepaint.com

A full day of learning new techniques . We also had  an opportunity to use the new colours. White, French Linen and Cocoa. These colours will be available in September.

Coco: A warm greyed brown , the colour found in old French Woodwork.

[caption id="attachment_912" align="aligncenter" width="120" caption="Coco"][/caption]

French Linen: A cool neutral khaki grey inspired by bleached deep neutral of French and Italian furniture

[caption id="attachment_913" align="aligncenter" width="120" caption="French Linen"][/caption]

White: Quite simply a pure clean white.

Barb our quiet petite creative lit up like a light bulb , this is her palette and I am as excited as she is about these, they are gentle and dramatic, and I can't wait to do do a large piece.

Actually I have four chairs waiting . The day before we left on the trip I was on my way to do a delivery and stopped at a yard sale!!!! Should I ? shouldn' t I ? and of course I did.!!!!

I know that some of you are concerned about the cost of the paint. Remember that there is no priming or sanding required and just think about the time you will save by eliminating those steps.

You can extend the colours to give you a wider range.

Example : Country Grey

Country Grey

You can add it to Duck Egg or Chateau Grey to give the colours a paler look.

You can also  add 1,2,3, 4  parts old white to extend the colour

If I loved Annie Sloan before the workshop I love here even more, the possibilities are endless, this is no ordinary paint. It allows you to be very creative, we learned a number of techniques and I would highly recommend  quick and easy paint transformations which is the book that we used as our reference guide to making each of the samples.

At the end of our workshop the rain had finally stopped and Patty drove us to the Boardwalk at the Jersey Shore and we were able to spend a couple of hours there enjoying a walk on the beach and taking in the sea air.

A wonderful day all in all . It was just three short days but WOW I cant wait to paint.!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until next time.

Elizabeth

The Blog August 04 2011, 0 Comments

Our blog is going through a makeover, two busy little bees working hard to make it all happen.
We will have an online shop for the Annie Sloan Paint so you can order it directly .

In the meantime just before the move I had a visit form young Sara, who just purchased a home and wanted to find unique items to put in her new home.

Very organized armed with  picutures of the things she wanted. The first on the list a dining room table , although she did not have  a picture of this she knew what she wanted, and based on a table that I had in the shop we came up with a table for her.

Saturday we deliver the table and I will show you what else I  found for Sara.

A BEAUTIFUL day here the weather perfect no humidity yet.

Rented a truck today to do the final move, and presenting a kitchen desing this evening. A busy, but exciting day

Until next time Elizabeth

The Angles Sang.... August 02 2011, 0 Comments

The moment has come.... the mail lady came through the door.... carrying a brown box today, which the secreatary and I immediately knew was the box that contained the liquid gold! I felt like I 'd found the Holy Grail.

I carried that box to the back room first going slowly. so overwhelmed with excietment....then I set it down and stared at it for a moment without blinking. I might have drooled a bit, ,but I can't say for certain since it's all a bit blurry. Then I opned my Swiss army knife, and sliced the box in 2 . And there it was . Annie Sloan . The white can with the simple blue writing . I fetl like I'd won the lottery. And if there had been a paint brush in that box or anywhere in the chiropractic clinic, all of the massage tables would be sporting a new look by the end of today:) It is taken every ounce of willpower I have NOT to open every can just to 'see' until I get it safely home.

Thank-you Elizabeth! You made my weekend, and probably everybody else's too since they won;t have to listen to me ask 26 times a day " Is it here yet"

Thank-you Calley, you and everyone else who has orderd paint has made my day, it was a bit scarey making that first big order and hoping there would be others who were as excited as I was  about this wonderful paint. It was worth the gamble and now a whole new world has opened up and many new freinds. THE BEST!!!

Remember, before and after pictures they are an inspiration for us all!!!
